Credit repair letters – Sample you can send to Equifax, Transunion and Experian
Once you begin your repair efforts, there are a few different credit repair letters that you need to write to the three different bureaus. Most of them involve disputing accounts that are on your credit report that you need to have deleted.
For example, you may have taken a look at your credit report and noticed that there are accounts that are closed but were negative at one point or another. The accounts are older than seven years and according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act accounts older than seven years should be deleted from your report. (continued below)
At this point you can write to the bureaus requesting that the accounts be deleted; here is a free sample credit repair letter used to dispute them.
Equifax Consumer Services
To Whom it may Concern,
My Name Is Ken Washington, my current address is 4512 silver street, Silver Spring, MD 21204. My SSN is 123-45-6789 and my DOB is 12/11/80.
I have just reviewed a copy of my credit report and noticed that there are two accounts listed on my report that have been closed for more than seven years. As you are aware that the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires accounts older than seven years be deleted from credit reports, I would like you to please delete these two accounts from my credit report as soon as possible.
Here are the details of the accounts that I am referring to:
Citifinancial Mastercard:
Account Number: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
HSBC VISA
Account Number XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
I have also included a copy of my driver’s license and social security card to verify my identity. I would also like you to send me a copy of my updated credit report once the correction as been made.
Thanks for your cooperation with regards to this matter.
Sincerely,
Ken Washington.
You want to make sure to include a copy of your driver’s license with your letter. Remember to send the letter registered mail, this will allow you to track it so that you have proof when it was received by the credit bureaus. They have thirty days to finish their investigation and get back to you in writing.
It is also important to remember that you DO NOT have to wait the seven years to have a negative removed from your report...The only negatives that should remain on your account after your dispute is what the bureaus CAN PROVE to be accurate!
The
37days-to-clean-credit course
will show you step-by-step how to go about this task.
